Visual Theology – Ephesians
The Visual Theology charts are designed to help you see the structure and movement of Scripture. They highlight patterns, contrasts, and developments that are often difficult to hold together when reading line by line.
These charts show the structure of the argument. The accompanying articles develop each part in full.
This approach follows a long tradition of visual teaching in the Church. The well-known charts of Clarence Larkin helped many grasp the broad outline of Scripture. In the same spirit, these charts aim to make visible what the Word of God is revealing.

True Ministry vs. Counterfeit Teaching
Ephesians 3:8-12 -- Boldness and Access in Christ
This chart shows the structure. What follows explains each part.
Ephesians 3:8-12
Unto me, who am less than the least of all saints, is this grace given, that I should preach among the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ; and to make all men see what is the fellowship of the mystery, which from the beginning of the world hath been hid in God, who created all things by Jesus Christ: to the intent that now unto the principalities and powers in heavenly places might be known by the church the manifold wisdom of God, according to the eternal purpose which he purposed in Christ Jesus our Lord: in whom we have boldness and access with confidence by the faith of him.
The Stewardship of True Ministry
True ministry, as revealed in Ephesians 3:8-12, is a stewardship of the unsearchable riches of Christ. Paul presents himself as a steward entrusted to make known “the fellowship of the mystery, which from the beginning of the world hath been hid in God” (Ephesians 3:9). This is the administration of God’s household (oikonomia), distributing Christ’s riches to nourish and equip the saints. The purpose is that “now unto the principalities and powers in heavenly places might be known by the church the manifold wisdom of God” (Ephesians 3:10), so that in Christ “we have boldness and access with confidence” (Ephesians 3:12). The essence is to unveil our union with Christ, supplying the heirs of God with their full inheritance.
The Counterfeit Ministry
In contrast, Paul warns against teaching preoccupied with “fables and endless genealogies, which minister questions, rather than godly edifying which is in faith” (1 Timothy 1:4). This counterfeit ministry diverts from God’s economy, producing confusion and a defiled conscience. Such teachers, “understanding neither what they say, nor whereof they affirm” (1 Timothy 1:7), generate an atmosphere of uncertainty and condemnation, causing believers to shrink back in shame rather than draw near in confidence.
The Threefold Outcome of True Ministry
True ministry produces a threefold outcome: “Now the end of the commandment is charity out of a pure heart, and of a good conscience, and of faith unfeigned” (1 Timothy 1:5).
Love from a pure heart flows from being “rooted and grounded in love” and knowing “the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge” (Ephesians 3:19). This vision of God’s love purifies the heart, as we draw near “with a true heart in full assurance of faith” (Hebrews 10:22).
A good conscience is the fruit of a ministry that points to Christ’s finished work, not the believer’s shortcomings. Legalistic teaching produces an evil conscience, focusing inward and creating distance from God.
Faith unfeigned is genuine confidence arising from believing what God has accomplished in Christ. It is not religious pretense, but the reality of drawing near to God on the basis of Christ’s work, purifying the heart (Acts 15:9).
The Goal of Ministry
The goal of ministry is to produce boldness and confident access to God by unveiling the riches of Christ. Faithful stewardship nourishes and equips the heirs of God, enabling them to participate fully in His household. Ministry that swerves from this focus leads to confusion and insecurity. True ministry leaves believers confident in Christ, with hearts purified by His love, consciences cleansed by His blood, and faith that is unfeigned—ready to approach the Father with boldness and joy.
